|
|
Ok the repeater is out and obviously they are not going to be fixing it for awhile. Its been out for about 2 weeks and I'm afraid they may have took it out of service or something. Reception has been very poor here since the repeater went out.
I'm using a Delphi Myfi XM2Go reciever. When using it indoors I have the home antenna outside aiming south tords the southern sky. I only get 2 bars at best, and changing channels often results in extended "loading" times.
Outside, I use it with the ClipXT (the updated external antenna) The ClipXT was wonderful. I could walk around without a single dropout, even get a solid signal in some buildings. Without that repeater, its nothing.
There's a lot of trees and stuff here.
I'm wondering, since obviously I'm going to be sitting here repeaterless for a long time if anybody has any outdoor reception hints with the ClipXT. Any idea on where I should place it, what angle, etc?
As for indoors, am I just stuck with the "extended loading" when I switch channels?
I'm considering canceling my service because of this. I really do not want to. I have a Sirius for indoors and an XM for Pop2K and On The Go listening. The XM satelite signal is really bad around these parts. I live in a highly populated urban area between Milwaukee and Chicago.
Thanks for your suggestions in advance. |

If you are trying to use the ClipXT outside, you just clip it to yourself. The higher up on your body the better. It still needs a view of the sky for reception. If you are walking next to tall buildings that block your view, you probably won't have great results. _________________ The one and only, XMFan.com!

Are you jogging/walking while outside? If you are sitting at a picnic table etc, you could use this where you could plug any XM antenna into the MyFi.

I'm considering walking around with the car cradle that I don't use using my spare home antenna as the antenna
It worked before |

The adapter goreds linked to above would let you use your home antenna directly into the radio, bypassing the home cradle.
If you plan on doing that, use a car antenna instead of a home antenna. Home antennas are directional, car antennas are omni-directional. _________________ The one and only, XMFan.com!

| I have all 3 options available. What exact direction are the satelites at? I'm pointed directly south but always had better (somewhat) to the south and west. |

The XM satellites are right over the equator, so you want to aim south. _________________ The one and only, XMFan.com!

Well here's the results.
First and foremost, it does not beat having the repeater. I used to be able to walk around town with the internal antenna (No need for even the ClipXT) with the repeater. Now I can't get anything without some kind of antenna plugged in.
I took the car cradle, and grabbed a spare Sirius home antenna. I could have used a car antenna but the wires are too long. Anyway walking around town with the Myfi in 1 hand and the Sirius antenna in the other I was able to get reletively solid reception from the satelites with dropouts only occationally.
Anyways, I hope that repeater comes back up soon. I miss it. |
