The last 11 hours didn't look too different from any other weekday. |

| In 2003 when I first started a list for the '80s channel (and a few dozen other channels), I was excited to hear a lot of non-top-40 songs. Now it's 2010, more than a year and a half after the Sirius/XM merger resulted in shrunken playlists, and I'm still adding songs that were number-one hits and haven't been played since late 2008. Am I supposed to get excited now? I hope not, 'cause I ain't excited. |

You wanna get excited, Thomps? Here's some 80's excitement for you!
Sunday is the anniversary (29th) of MTV's first day! And get this: the ORIGINAL MTV VEEJAYS (except, um, the one who's no longer with us) will TALK ABOUT THEIR MEMORIES OF MTV on Sunday...on SXM Channel 8!
You heard me correctly! Mark Goodman, Nina Blackwood, Alan Hunter and Martha Quiinn will talk about MTV...this is truly a special occasion, because the other 364 days of the year, they rarely mention their MTV days. You almost have to squeeze it out of 'em.

Here's what is sad: all three of the "new" regular-play songs were number one hits and hadn't been played for more than a year and a half.
Here's what is more sadderer: a supposedly "lost" song was also a number one hit and hadn't been played for more than a year and a half.
Somewhere in the Sirius/XM broadcast facility there must be a lost-and-found area where one of the programmers goes and says, "Aha, here are those hundreds of number one hits---I haven't seen them for 18 months. I wondered what had happened to them." How else do you explain a song such as Magic being "lost"? |

| Sukiyaki was a hit for A Taste Of Honey in 1981 and for 4 PM in 1994. The song was first a number one hit in 1962 in Japan by Kyu Sakamoto. The title was Ue O Uite Aruko, which translates to "I look up when I walk." In Great Britain, Kenny Ball recorded the song and it was released as Sukiyaki, because the schmucks at Pye Records assumed that no one could pronounce the Japanese title so they retitled the song after the more familiar word, "sukiyaki." Then Kyu Sakamoto's original version became a worldwide hit...with the new title. Musical purists should insist on the original title! |

| Great trivia, thomps. Never knew that. Love the 80's version of the song, and I hope it will be played more than once a year on that channel. |

I should have mentioned that A Taste Of Honey's version had English lyrics instead of Japanese lyrics. Maybe you already figured that out. |

I see that was on the 50's channel - don't listen there. You would think a song from the summer of 1963 would be played on the 60's channel. _________________ Wierd Willy West of WINO (aka George Carlin) - "We've got the old tunes, the new tunes, the show tunes, the blue tunes, the greatest music in town .......
